Dear Family and Friends,
For as long as I can remember, music has been a big part of my life.
Several years ago, my mom visited the Shalva National Center in Jerusalem, and she came home talking about the special and unique ways they support children (and their families) with disabilities. As she talked about their different programs, I was especially inspired by one of them, the Shalva Band. I watched videos about their stories and performances on stages as big as the Eurovision competition, and knew I wanted to find a way to help out through my mitzvah project.
The Shalva Band is a group of young people with disabilities that were discovered and developed through Shalva’s music therapy program. Their website describes the Shalva Band as an opportunity for children to express themselves through music and shatters misconceptions about individuals with disabilities, proving how talented and capable they are.
This really spoke to me because ever since I was little, I have expressed myself through music. I love that Shalva has created a way for children of all abilities to do the same, and I am raising money to ensure they have the instruments and music they need to keep performing.
In August, I will go to Israel for the first time with my family and we will visit the Shalva Center so that I can see the impact of my support – and yours - firsthand. I will be excited to share photos and stories from the visit with all who choose to support my project.
My goal is to raise $1,800 for this wonderful place. I am planning to donate a portion of my gifts, but please consider making a donation to help me reach my goal. Thank you!
-Jacob
