My Fundraising Goal: 1,800 USD
Total Raised To Date: 1,400 USD
Remaining: 400 USD
Dear Family and Friends,
My Bat Mitzvah project is called Smiles for Shalva.
This August 2021, I will be celebrating my b’nai mitzvah with my brother Lexx. We had hoped to travel to Israel for this important milestone. Unfortunately, due to Covid 19, these plans have been postponed.
While in Israel, my family and I had planned to visit Shalva. Shalva is an organization offering a range of services, programs and therapies for thousands of individuals with disabilities and their families. Shalva gives equal access to all participants regardless of religion, ethnic background or financial capability. The new Shalva National Center is in the heart of Jerusalem and every day around 1,000 children with disabilities come to the Center to get the therapies they need and join different programs.
For my mitzvah project, “Smiles for Shalva”, I will be raising money for the amazing music therapy program at Shalva. This program provides all participants with a framework for self-discovery, expression and cognitive development. Music is a platform for social inclusion, acceptance and bonding. Just as I have had the opportunity to follow my passion for music, from singing, to playing the piano, to participating in musical theater productions, I want the children of Shalva to enjoy those same experiences and feel this same joy and passion.
I am particularly inspired by The Shalva Band, a strong example of what Shalva and its music therapy program can accomplish. The Shalva band is comprised of talented musicians with disabilities, many of whom are graduates of Shalva’s rehabilitative programs and their musical talents were discovered and developed through Shalva’s music therapy program. The Shalva Band now travels the world and continues to impact audiences and musicians throughout Israel and beyond. Without the music therapy program at Shalva, these talented individuals would not have been given the platform or opportunity to reach their full potential and inspire the world.
I am aiming to raise $1800 for the Shalva music therapy program. To help achieve this goal, I will be selling hats created by me with smiley faces on them (see picture). These “Smiles for Shalva” hats will cost $18 each and 100 percent of the proceeds from these hats will go towards this worthwhile cause. If you would like to purchase hats, you can make your donation here and then just email my mom at hzells@yahoo.com to let her know you want hats and we will get them to you.
And even if you do not want a hat, any donation, in any amount, can be made by visiting my link https://give.shalva.org/izzimalkinsmilesforshalva.
Please consider donating or buying hats to help me reach my goal.
I can’t wait to meet the children and individuals of Shalva hopefully someday soon and sing and play music with them. Please help me raise funds to support Smiles for Shalva and this special cause. Thank you in advance for your generosity. I greatly appreciate it!
Love, Izzi
P.S. And don’t forget to also support Lexx and his mitzvah project through ITEC, the Israel Tennis and Education Centers. https://mitzvahproject.causevox.com/lexxmalkin
