The Dr. Daniel J. Cammerman Music Therapy Room
"Dr. Dan's Room"
Our son, Dr. Daniel Cammerman loved children. As a senior paediatrician in New York City he was loved by patients, parents and fellow physicians alike; Dr. Dan, the doctor who never wore a white coat but had 10 Mickey Mouse ties.
Daniel was born in Reading, Berkshire, a fine student, a loving son and a wonderful big brother. He went to Carmel College and then on to Oxford University where he achieved a Double First, after which he abandoned his natural talent for mathematics and computation to follow his heart and become a doctor. It was obvious from the start that his love of children, his natural kindness and his ability as a physician would lead him to become a paediatrician and he fulfilled that dream in Mount Sinai Hospital and Uptown Pediatrics in Manhattan. Daniel always had a special place in his heart for children with special needs, a love he expressed toward his adored nephew Sammy.
One side of Daniel that his patients didn't see was the musician, the pianist who would come home from the hospital and play Beethoven for his wife Karen and beloved children, Joshua and Callie and throughout his adult life, his love of singing in Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas.
Daniel's life was cut short in a tragic accident as he cycled to Mount Sinai Hospital through Central Park. When we thought about what he would have wanted as a tribute to his life and work, a music therapy room in Shalva, bringing joy to the lives of children, was the perfect answer.
